What is the SUNY Apprenticeship Program?

A grant developed by SUNY in partnership with the NYSDOL. The focus is to engage small, medium, and large employers in New York to secure paid registered apprenticeships in high skilled, high demand and competitive wage occupations in advanced manufacturing, healthcare, information technology, and more!

Our goal:

To develop and help apprenticeship programs succeed in New York State. This grant allows us to monetarily aid employers with the related instruction part of an apprenticeship. This fund can be accessed by every SUNY community college to help apprenticeship programs in our specific areas.

Who can participate in the SUNY Apprenticeship Program?

Future Students/Apprentices

  • Are you 18 years old or older? (no maximum age limit)
  • Do you have a high school diploma or equivalent?

These are the main requirements to begin your career if you are looking to start an apprenticeship. Of course you need to have a strong work ethic, but most importantly a willingness and desire to learn and work in the trade you choose.

After you decide that apprenticeship is right for you, you should consider the following:

  • Search NY's Job Bank. We list all apprenticeship openings in the .
  • Respond to a press release. Large sponsors that hold a public recruitment will announce this in a .
  • Contact an organization in your area that trains through apprenticeship.
  • Find an employer in your occupational field who might be interested in training through apprenticeship.
  • Not sure where to start?  Contact us and we’ll assist in your search.

 

Only apprenticeship programs officially registered with the New York State Department of Labor are recognized nationally. Only these programs can offer a Certificate of Completion to the apprentice at the conclusion of the approved training.

How Apprenticeship Works for Recruits: 

Employers

  • State tax incentives.
  • Apprentices have a genuine interest in your industry.
  • May also reduce hiring costs by providing a streamlined channel to bring on new workers.

Students/Apprentices

  • Your child will graduate with a certificate/college degree with little to no student loan debt.
