�첥��Ƶ Cortland Community College students looking to expand their learning through an internship with a local employer have a new incentive. The College has received $116,000 to support students in unpaid or low-paid internships over the next three years.

The funding comes from a statewide investment in workforce development Governor Kathy Hochul announced in 2022. That announcement included the creation of the Office of Strategic Workforce Development (OSWD), which has worked with SUNY to expand internship opportunities for students. 

As part of the program at TC3, students are able to apply for up to $3,500 while participating in unpaid or low-paid internships. The money can be used to cover expenses associated with the internship such as transportation, required attire, and tuition, as well as offset living costs, including rent, childcare, and groceries.

“Internships and applied learning opportunities are integral to student career exploration and finding meaningful employment in fields of interest,” said Dara Riegel, TC3’s �첥��Ƶ Director for Employer Relations and Experiential Learning. “The SUNY Internship Program allows �첥��Ƶ Cortland Community College to offer vital financial support to students engaging in unpaid and low-paid internship opportunities through academic program requirements. It will also encourage students in all majors to apply for internships they may not have previously considered due to financial constraints.”
