Academic Writing I
A student exempted from ENGL 100 must substitute a three-credit unrestricted elective. The course should be selected in consultation with the student’s advisor. 

Short Narrative Film Writing OR Visiting Writer Series 

ENGL 227, ART 111, ART 233, or other ART course, COMM 115, COMM 140 or other COMM course, or MUSI course recommended. Per New Media Department approval, Creative Writing-Screenwriting majors do not need ART 110 or 111 or 117 or 120 prerequisite prior to enrolling in ART 233. 

Academic Writing II
Creative Writing majors may enroll concurrently in ENGL 101 and ENGL 102. 

Approaches to Literature
Creative Writing majors may enroll concurrently in ENGL 101 and ENGL 102. 

Screenwriting

Film Analysis 

A lab science is recommended and should be selected with the student’s advisor based on the requirements of the intended transfer institution. 

Public Speaking OR Interpersonal Communication OR Intercultural Communication

Advanced Screenwriting

Marketing the Screenplay 

Choose two courses in a single world language. 

Students interested in studying abroad should take ENGL 134 Transformative Travel Writing. The associated Learning Community course will fulfill the fourth semester Unrestricted Elective requirement. 

Journalism OR Creative Nonfiction

Writing Television Drama & Comedy

Choose two courses in a single world language. 

Choose from: U.S. History & Civic Engagement or World History & Global Awareness. The course should be selected in consultation with student’s advisor and in accordance with degree requirements at intended transfer institution. 

Students interested in studying abroad should take ENGL 134 Transformative Travel Writing. The associated Learning Community course will fulfill the fourth-semester Unrestricted Elective required.
